Australian Professional Opportunity - Building a Social Media Presence for Small Scale Enterprises

Applications are open for an Australian Professional Opportunity (APO) on ‘Building a Social Media Presence for Small Scale Enterprises’.

This activity aims to build the capabilities of up to 20 women entrepreneurs in Nepal who operate a micro, small or medium enterprise (MSME) in Nepal, who manufacture products locally and have been forced to move from face-to-face to virtual business strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to build capacity for MSME owners and boost their online exposure leading towards increased awareness and sales of their products domestically and internationally. Entrepreneurs will also be encouraged to explore strategies to increase the accessibility of their social media to increase engagement with marginalised groups.

The Australian Government’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Strategy (the Strategy) highlights women’s economic empowerment as a key priority area the Government’s work to promote gender equality.

To achieve its objectives, the Strategy establishes three priority areas:

  • Enhancing women’s voice in decision making, leadership and peacebuilding
  • Promoting women’s economic empowerment
  • Ending violence against women and girls

The Australian Government’s Partnerships for Recovery: Australia’s COVID-19 Development Response, also places gender equality and women’s empowerment centrally in Australia’s foreign policy, economic diplomacy and development efforts.

The course will be delivered online by Australia based trainers in a series of five, 90-minute bespoke webinars in March 2022. Sessions will commence at 10:00 a.m. Nepal time and will be conducted over Zoom.

Interested women business owners who are trading and promoting ‘Made in Nepal’ products, providing employment to others and possessing the potential to apply the knowledge and experience gained through course participation are invited to submit an online Application Form by 26 January 2022, 5:00 p.m. Nepal time.

Participants of diverse ethnicity, ability/disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expressions and sex characteristics are encouraged to apply.

To be eligible candidates must:

  • Be a Nepalese citizen currently residing in Nepal
  • Identify as a woman
  • Operate a self-owned micro, small or medium enterprise in Nepal for at least the last one year, evidenced by Business PAN registration as per Government of Nepal regulations in current enterprise name
  • Have access to a suitable work area, device and Internet connection during the virtual training sessions
  • Possess at least high school level English language skills
  • Be able and willing to attend the webinars and to apply learnings from the APO by actively practicing and promoting the new techniques and knowledge
  • Demonstrate digital literacy including experience with online learning and meeting platforms. Be able to access and understand social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram for business promotion.
  • Provide evidence of at least one social media page established for the business, under the same company name.

To apply for this APO, applicants must complete the online online Application Form by 26 January 2022, 5:00 p.m. Nepal time.

Only completed applications submitted online will be considered.

 

Completed and eligible applications will be assessed and ranked based on the above eligibility criteria and the following criteria:

  • Applicant’s willingness and ability to use new skills and knowledge for their business growth and promotion
  • Applicant’s business history, relevance and position in the current market
  • Applicants promoting ‘Made in Nepal’ products and providing employment to others will be given priority

A shortlist will be provided to the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal to finalise the selection process.

A maximum of 20 participants will be identified and informed by 14 February 2022. Should any participants decline the offer, a reserve applicant/s will be offered the opportunity in ranked order.
